Frequently asked questions

The morning reading didn't complete. What happened?

Morning readings require Apple Watch and a Mindfulness session. If the session was interrupted (Watch removed, Focus mode triggered, low battery), the reading may be marked partial or unusable. A partial reading still produces a stability score using whatever data was captured. An unusable reading offers the subjective check-in only.

Check that your Watch is charged before starting the reading, and that Focus modes are not set to interrupt Watch notifications.

My spoon count doesn't feel right.

Spoon costs are calibrated to you. They start from your onboarding answers and adapt over time. If a category consistently feels off, you can adjust its cost directly: go to Settings, then Categories, and tap the category to edit it.

The daily ceiling is also adjustable from Settings at any time. The app's rolling adaptation is slow by design. Manual adjustment is always available.

How do I share data with my doctor?

From the You tab, tap "Share with care team." Choose what to include, set an expiry date, and generate a bundle. You'll get a link and a passphrase. Share both with your doctor through whatever channel you trust. They open the link in any browser. No account is needed on their end.

I can't see my Watch data on my iPhone.

Understory syncs Watch data via CloudKit. Both devices need to be signed into the same iCloud account and have iCloud Drive enabled. Give the sync a few minutes after a Watch session. If data still isn't appearing after 10 minutes, try force-quitting and reopening the iPhone app.

How do I delete my data completely?

From the You tab, scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete account and data." This takes effect immediately on your device, propagates via CloudKit within minutes, and revokes all active care-team shares. You can also export a full JSON copy of your data from the same screen before deleting.

The app asked for location access. Why?

Location context is an optional feature that tracks which venues (grocery stores, medical appointments, social events) you visit and correlates them with your stability over time. It's off by default. You can enable it from Settings, and you can disable it or delete any venue data at any time. The app uses CLVisit monitoring, not continuous GPS tracking.

I found a bug or something unexpected happened.

Please email us with as much detail as you can: which screen, what you tapped, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. If the app crashed, a note of which iOS/watchOS version you're on helps.

Does the app work with non-Apple wearables?

Not in the current version. Understory uses Apple Watch for biometric capture and HealthKit as its data layer. Non-Apple wearables are out of scope for v1.

Is the app free?

Pricing has not been finalised. This page will be updated before launch. Core pacing features will not be gated behind a paywall.

Understory targets WCAG AA accessibility throughout, with VoiceOver support, Dynamic Type, 44pt touch targets, and full one-handed usability. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please let us know. We treat accessibility reports as high-priority.
